It’s that time of year again—our annual Edmonton Food Bank Drive! We’re calling on our community to “Raise the Roof” and help feed families in need this holiday season.

Growing up, my parents were hardworking immigrants who made sure there was always food on the table. Because of their sacrifices, I never experienced true hunger.

But through my volunteer work in schools and surrounding communities, I’ve seen the harsh realities many families face. I’ve watched parents skip meals so their children could eat, and I’ve seen children quietly sit at lunch, pretending not to notice their classmates eating because they had nothing to eat themselves.

The Reality of Hunger in Edmonton

Hunger is a growing issue in our city. According to recent statistics, the Edmonton Food Bank assists over 20,000 individuals every month, and 40% of those are children. Many of these families are working hard, yet they still struggle to afford basic necessities like food.

For families, the holiday season can amplify this pressure. Parents are not only trying to create joyful memories but are also desperately seeking ways to put food on the table. This is why the Edmonton Food Bank is so vital. It’s a lifeline for countless families, providing relief during difficult times and ensuring no one in our community has to go hungry.
